1880 Shield Nickel. Proof-68 (NGC). Breathtakingly beautiful surfaces are silky smooth in texture beneath crescents of vivid multicolored iridescence. A real delight to behold -- fully struck, appreciably mirrored in finish, and so well preserved as to be virtually pristine. This is one of the finest certified survivors from a mintage of 3,955 Proofs, the date 1880 one of the more eagerly sought in the Shield nickel series due to a limited mintage (just 16,000 pieces) for the year's circulation strike issue.
