Lot Description
THE SOMMELIER COLLECTION An exceptional quality example of this type, which has distinct claims to a full GEM grade. Intensely brilliant surfaces gleam boldly from below a dappled blend of slate, amber, and russet tones. The cartwheel luster blooms vividly on both sides, enlivening the color and sharply struck devices. There is just the slightest trace of weakness at the denomination and at the peak of Liberty's cap. The surfaces are totally clean and in the old days, this coin would have been called a GEM. We love the look of this outstanding coin! PCGS 61, NGC 69, CAC 20. The most recent example to sell was not CAC approved and brought $5,280 in February 2020. We sold a PCGS/CAC example in our January 2018 Regency Auction fro $6,463. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $8,250. VERY RARE any finer, PCGS has graded fewer than two dozen higher. A great looking example of the type and this is certainly a tougher date. Cert. Number 25233684 PCGS # 6177.00
