Lot Description

131.7 grains. Glossy medium brown with hints of rosy oxidation pleasantly blended into the obverse surfaces, while the reverse is more mottled light and medium brown with some of the same ruddy flecks. Extraordinarily sharp on both sides, well centered, a superb display of this Machin's Mills production's designs. A dropped lamination leaves a low spot on the portrait below central obverse, scattered natural pitting that turns a bit rougher at the right obverse periphery, similar texture on the reverse. Free of post-striking defects, this piece offers a pleasing, natural appearance. We've sold just three examples at higher certified grades, but none higher than AU-53 (PCGS). This one holds its own among them.
