Lot Description

Breen Die State VIII, with a sizable obverse cud break involving the tops of the letters TY in LIBERTY and extending to the right along the border. This is a handsome piece with warm olive-brown patina and some glints of reddish-rose evident under lighting. Generally hard and smooth, there are no sizable marks, just a hint of roughness from light carbon build up at the upper obverse border among the letters BER in LIBERTY. Well struck with good centering and uncommonly bold detail overall for the assigned Choice VF grade. Provenance concerns compel us to mention a dull, shallow field mark before Liberty's eye that requires intent to discern. Tied for CC#15 in the Noyes census with an EAC grade of VF35, net VF25, this is a premium mid-grade Draped Bust cent and a significant example of the near-terminal state of the Sheldon-110 dies.
