Lot Description
1853-C Gold Dollar. MS-61 (NGC). A handsome piece with even medium gold patina and a pleasing satin texture to both sides. This is an exceptionally well produced coin in an 1853-C gold dollar, the typical example noticeably blunt in detail. Here, however, we note a universally sharp strike throughout the reverse and bold definition on the obverse that wanes appreciably only over the hair curls above Liberty's brow. Also uncommonly well preserved, the surfaces are solidly in the Mint State category and smoother than one might expect at the assigned grade level. Impressive strike and condition rarity for this challenging issue with a mintage of just 11,515 pieces. PCGS# 7522. NGC ID: 25BV. Click here for certification details from NGC.
