- Lot Description
- A wonderful looking high Condition Census choice Uncirculated example of this R-4 die marriage. A scarce one that utilized a late state of the overdate obverse die and a new reverse (easily identifiable by the cross bars in the shield extending into the right wing). The Overton Census (4th edition) tops out at 60. Boldly lustrous surfaces under a layer of iridescent tan-gold-silver. The iridescence and luster combine with a strong strike to make for a boldly attractive example, which is second finest graded by PCGS for the O-102 variety, bested by a single MS63. This coin combines a great eye appeal and comes from the famous Link Collection, by far the finest collection of early half dollar die varieties ever assembled. PCGS 1, NGC 0. There is only a single PCGS MS63 CAC finer for the O-102 variety. This coin is not from any auction sale we can locate either in PCGS CoinFacts, nor our auction database. We sold a PCGS MS63 CAC of the more common O-101, for nearly $16,000 in our Regency XX auction in January 2017. In 62+ the CU value is listed at $9,250 (for all 11/10s). For the advanced Bust Half Nut, this coin is a must have! Good luck! PCGS # 39422 Certification Number 28524888 PCGS # 6099
