- 1901 Morgan Silver Dollar. Proof-63 Cameo (PCGS). Largely brilliant with frosty design elements, mirror fields, and a hint of pale gold at the rims. From a proof mintage for the date of 813 pieces. A great deal of acquisition pressure is placed upon proofs of the date owing to the rarity of Mint State 1901 Morgan dollars. Finer overall than the typical representative of the grade.

Numismatic Reflections by Q. David Bowers
I could never quite figure out the pricing structure of proof 1901 Morgan dollars in Choice and Gem grades. They are far less expensive than circulation strikes, and one would think that proofs would be a nice substitute for many collectors. In any event, I see value here at the current market price.
