1796 Washington REPUB. AMERI Piece. Bronze. 38 mm. By Thomas Wyon. Baker-68. Rarity-5. Plain Edge. MS-63 BN (PCGS). Obv: bust of Washington right, GEORGE WASHINGTON above, date 1796 below, WYON on truncation. Rev: caduceus, crossed cannons, fasces, and scroll that reads REPUB / AMERI within central circle, three concentric lines of text around. Hard and glossy chestnut surfaces exhibit deep golden undertones and luster. A sharply struck example of a popular British token that has found its way into mainstream American collecting owing to its subject matter. PCGS# 20038.
