The 27-S is a challenging date, with a mintage of only 396,000. During the Great Depression most of these disappeared into commercial channels and the typical survivor is very low grade. This is a very pleasing, lightly circulated CHOICE AU example. The wear, such as it is, is limited to the highest points. Antique silver-gray patina is accented by warm gold and pale lilac iridescence. The eye appeal is excellent for the assigned grade. PCGS 73, NGC 30, CAC 14. The most recent AU55 of this date was a non-CAC PCGS con hat brought $3,480 in July 2021. No NGC AU55 has sold since the early part of 2016.
