Lot Description
1880 Liberty Head Eagle. MS-62+ (PCGS). Endearing golden-apricot surfaces are fully struck with bountiful mint luster. The Philadelphia Mint set a record in 1880 - the first issue ten-dollar gold eagle issue of any type, from any coinage facility, with a mintage of more than a million coins. The exact mintage for this issue is 1,644,840 circulation strikes, survivors of which are plentiful in grades up to and including MS-62. Premium BU and Choice examples are scarce, however, and with Gems all but unknown this upper end MS-62+ represents a significant find in today's market. Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection - Rhone Set. PCGS# 8687. NGC ID: 265S. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
