Lot Description
53.6 grains. An exceptional example of the type, both sides offer perfect centering with fully denticulated borders framing universally bold, fully appreciable design elements. The surfaces are likewise choice, devoid of troublesome marks or other blemishes, and handsomely toned in rich pewter gray that lightens a bit atop the devices. The most often seen Chalmers coins are shillings of the bird type, the short worm variant offered here perhaps slightly scarcer than its long worm counterpart. With the quality of strike and superior surface preservation offered here, both types are equally scarce in an absolute sense, and rare from a market availability standpoint. This one is sure to sell for a strong premium.<p>PCGS has incorrectly mounted this coin with the reverse up in the holder.
