- Type II / II. Variable strikes for 1877-S reflect inadequate quality control at the mint, but there is no need to worry in this case as both sides are decidedly well detailed. Individual feathers for the eagle's motif have been just about perfectly incised by the dies. Somewhat abraded as one might expect of the grade, but showing decent luster beneath splashes of peripheral patina.
