Lot Description

Tied for FINEST graded at either service, this sharply struck 55-D nickel clearly sat undisturbed for a long time in some sort of old holder, more than likely a mint set board. Totally original, the surfaces have a dusty old time patina that is accented by a bold underlying luster. The devices are sharply struck, especially the central reverse devices, where Monticello's steps are boldly rendered by an exacting blow from the dies. The surfaces show a few tiny, scattered ticks are noted, perfectly acceptable for the assigned grade. What a great coin for anyone building the top ranking Jefferson nickel Registry Set.
