57.7 grains. A distinct and unique die pairing in the Rosa Americana halfpenny series, due to the D:G:REX abbreviation and punctuation on the obverse. We have offered a number of nice Mint State examples of this Martin number in recent years, but our good fortune should not mislead bidders - such pieces are very scarce in an absolute sense. This is a handsome one, both sides with rich antique copper patina overall and a blush of lighter tobacco-brown color at left reverse. The strike is ideally executed, the impression well centered within fully denticulated borders, all design elements boldly to sharply rendered. Texture is hard and frosty, the surfaces free of significant blemishes, and also any that might distract during in hand viewing. Premium quality for the assigned grade, and worthy of a close look prior to formulating an aggressive bidding strategy.
