Lot Description

This is a splendid near-Gem with delicate golden peripheral toning to fully lustrous, softly frosted surfaces. Sharply struck and nicely preserved. The 1904-S is one of the most elusive Morgan dollars in all grades, as much of the mintage of 2,304,000 pieces was likely melted pursuant to the terms of the 1918 Pittman Act. Release of coins from federal storage was limited and came to an end during the 1950s, there being none in the Treasury Department releases of 1962 to 1964. Our offering of this CAC-endorsed MS-64 example in a PCGS Generation 1.2 holder represents a significant opportunity for the advanced collector specializing in this popular series.
