Lot Description

Undated (1828) American Plantations Token, or 1/24 Part Real. Restrike. Newman-5-D, W-1160. Rarity-5. AU-55 (PCGS). The deep slate-gray surfaces exhibit a hint of underlying luster on both sides. The usual surfaces graininess is present, and we note some tin pest on the ground beneath the horse and a patch of raw metal near the H of HISPAN on the reverse. Struck circa 1828 by Matthew Young, a London coin dealer, from cracked and rusted dies, though these restrikes are as avidly collected today as the originals. Pleasing to the eye despite a few minor flaws.
