1851 Liberty Head Double Eagle. Repunched Date. AU-50+ (PCGS). CAC. Bathed in richly original khaki-gold patina, this impressive example offers outstanding technical quality and eye appeal at the lower reaches of AU. Remarkably smooth in hand for a lightly circulated early date double eagle, as well, with sharp to full striking detail over virtually all design elements. Thoroughly PQ, and sure to sell for a strong bid. One of the few examples of this variety that we can recall handling in recent years, a loupe reveals repunching within the upper loop of the 8 and below the flag of the 5 and 1 in the date.
