- 70.5 grains. Nice steel and mauve-gray patina on surfaces that offer bold central definition, most letters in the peripheral legends discernible to full. Several straight clips give the upper half of the planchet a somewhat angular appearance, the one at upper right obverse encroaching most deeply into the letters on that side. The planchet is a bit ragged at 6 o'clock, more noticeable on the reverse, where the letters in DOM and almost entirely off the flan. There is plenty of nice gloss here, and no detracting marks are seen. Retrograde N at IN, cud at base of tree just forming. Reverse with cud at GL that also engages the beaded circle, A in ENGLAND apparently without serif, crumbling at ND, cud at OM just barely visible, faint spidery die cracks within inner beaded circle around date, NE in NEW as one letter. Diagnostics of the Noe-8.2 attribution include a small cud forming at the base of the pine tree, a noticeably split tree trunk, the aforementioned retrograde N and monogram NE, and the reverse cuds also noted above.
