Lot Description
1875 Pattern Twenty-Cent Piece. Judd-1407, Pollock-1550. Rarity-6-. Proof-63 Cameo (PCGS). The obverse design is similar to that used for regular issue Twenty-Cent piece production, except that the date is smaller and the word LIBERTY is expressed in incuse letters. The reverse exhibits the denomination 1/5 OF A DOLLAR centered within a laurel wreath, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border and another expression of the denomination TWENTY CENTS below. Struck in silver with a plain edge.
Suitably reflective in the fields, the devices are set apart with a full strike and softly frosted texture. A lightly toned specimen with only wispy hairlines to preclude a higher numeric grade. The website uspatterns.com allows for only about a dozen examples of Judd-1407 in numismatic hands.
