1865-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. Repunched Date. MS-60 (PCGS). Clearly not one of the Mint State 1865-S double eagles recovered from the S.S. Brother Jonathanshipwreck, this coin is awash in richly original honey-rose patina. Lustrous for the grade with bold to sharp striking detail, there is much to recommend this coin to the discerning gold enthusiast. A loupe reveals repunching at the top of the digit 1 in the date, which features adds further appeal for this premium quality BU double eagle. Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection. PCGS# 8944.
