- Lot Description
- A gorgeous GEM which ranks as coin # 2 in the Tompkins Census and # 3 on the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census. Hailing from the famed Oliver Jung Collection, sold by ANR back in July 2004, this is an exceptional example worthy of inclusion in that world class type set. Sharply struck from a late reverse die state with a solid crack that encircles the entire reverse. Richly lustrous surfaces have a delicate melange of toning that brings a mixture of gunmetal, gold, tan, russet, and olive patina that attest to the outstanding and total originality. The details are razor sharp in definition with full crisp definition on both sides. A strong glass reveals a microscopic trace of contact, well hidden under the patina and cannot be seen with the naked eye, nor do they have any impact on the outstanding visual allure of this impressive SUPERB GEM! PCGS 8, NGC 4, CAC 6. The most recent PCGS/CAC MS66 sold in the June 2014 Gardner Collection sale for $47,000. The Pogue collection had an example that brought $55,813. This one, with its impressive Jung Pedigree, will sell for a strong bid, likely in excess of current PCGS Price Guide value of $42,500. There is just a single MS66+ finer, which realized $55,813 in our October 2017 Regency Auction. This is a great type coin or high end example for the ultra high end early quarter set. Expect strong bidding for this one. Cert. Number 34172298 PCGS # 005348
