Lot Description
1868 Pattern Three-Cent Piece. Judd-615, Pollock-680. Rarity-5. Thick Planchet. Proof-65 Cameo (PCGS). CAC. 2.93 grains. The obverse design is very similar to that used to strike regular issue nickel three-cent pieces. On the reverse, a Roman numeral III is centered within a wreath of corn, cotton, wheat and tobacco. The obverse border is wider than that of the reverse. Struck in nickel with a plain edge.
Subtle golden iridescence further enlivens both sides of this already vibrant, well mirrored specimen. The devices are sharply struck and set apart from the fields with a decided satin texture.
