Lot Description
1822 Capped Bust Dime. JR-1, the only known dies. Rarity-3+. VF-25 (PCGS). CAC. Richly and originally toned, a bit more deeply on the obverse, with universally bold VF detail throughout. The mintage of 100,000 pieces is clearly incorrect as these have never been available in any quantity; it would be more likely that half or fewer that number were actually coined of this issue. This example would be a prize worth capturing as 1822 dimes are infrequently offered and the majority are found in grades of Good or lower; many are impaired. Provenance: From the Jerome S. Reznick Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) Metropolitan New York Numismatic Convention Sale of May 1971, lot 237. Collector tag with provenance notation included. CAC Population: 40 in all grades. PCGS# 4497. NGC ID: 236Z. Click here for certification details from PCGS. Image with the PCGS TrueView logo is obtained from and is subject to a license agreement with Collectors Universe, Inc. and its divisions PCGS and PSA.
