Lot Description
Original light silver-gray surfaces with enhancing blushes of olive-russet patina here and there at the peripheries, especially at left obverse. The strike is sharp and the luster has a pleasing satin to softly frosted texture. Rarest of the Peace dollars in Mint State, the key date status of the 1934-S is well known in today's market. Although the 1921, 1927, 1927-S, 1928 and 1934 all have lower mintages, the 1934-S (1,011,000 pieces produced) was not saved to the same extent. Much of the mintage was placed into circulation during the 1930s, explaining the ease with which collectors can obtain worn examples. Buying opportunities for attractive Mint State survivors such as this can be elusive, however, confirming the significance of this offering for the advanced Peace dollar enthusiast.
