- THE GEORGE SCHWENK COLLECTION The 1917-D Doubled Die Reverse is a seemingly VERY RARE issue, challenging in all grades. Unlisted in Breen's Encyclopedia, The doubling is very minor, seen mostly at STATES. A dramatic die crack through the first T in STATES might explain the rarity of this variety. Only light wear is seen on the surfaces but a wealth of detail from an exacting blow from the dies leaves this coin in the FH designation. Bold luster survives, clinging to the surfaces. giving this coin a good look. PCGS 1, NGC 0. A VERY tough coin to value. Unpriced in the PCGS Price Guide, however, without the FH designation the PCGS Price Guide values an XF45+ at $385 and AU58 at $2,750; a PCGS XF40 sold in October 2014 for $558. This appears to be the highest graded example to be offered at auction. Good luck. Cert. Number 46520544 PCGS # 511564
