- 144.5 grains. Uniform light brown with unusually nice surface quality, sharpness and eye appeal for the variety. Slightly imperfect centering, but no primary details are lost. Only the dentils are compromised. No serious planchet flaws. Light clash marks on the reverse, but without the sinking seen on later state pieces. <p>As noted in Clark, this variety is hard to find well struck, with most being weak, sometimes overall and other times unevenly so with large flat areas. Robert Martin's was of equally choice quality and a trifle higher in grade, but with almost no detail in the lower portions of either side. Syd Martin's (former SLT coin) was sharper, but still largely flat in areas. The Twin Leaf coin was almost identical in sharpness, but with less choice surfaces. Little else in our archives comes close. The Hall-Brand-Hessberg-Partrick coin is the finest, but this piece must be comfortably in the Condition Census for the variety. Missing from Ford, as noted on the associated envelope.
