Lot Description
This Proof Morgan dollar offers superior quality and eye appeal at the assigned grade level. Both sides are delicately toned in iridescent champagne-gold that deepens here and there at the borders, where blooms of reddish-gold and powder blue are seen. The toning is overall light and allows appreciation of a nicely cameo finish. Softly frosted and sharply defined in most areas, the design elements are supported by gentle reflectivity in the fields. The strike is not completely full, however, which is fairly typical for a pre-1894 Proof of this type since these pieces were struck on a screw press. For the present example, the coiners did not swing the arm of the press with sufficient strength to fully delineate every strand of hair over Liberty's ear. This is a minor detraction, to be sure, and even the faint hairlines and somewhat subdued appearance that define the Proof-62 grade do no prevent us from describing this as an attractive specimen. It most certainly is, and it is a coin that would fit comfortably into many Proof type or date sets. From a mintage of 930 Proof silver dollars of this date.
