- Lot Description
- 1848 Liberty Quarter Eagle. MS-61 (NGC). Pleasing orange-gold color throughout with moderate handling marks from bag shipping. The strike is sharp enough to bring up the obverse curls and star radials, but a trifle soft on the eagle's thigh. Rare with a mintage of 7,497 pieces, and this date was missing from the famed J. F. Bell Collection in the 1940s, causing a sudden realization that this issue was indeed rare. Likely one of the top 20 to survive of this issue and a condition rarity at this level.
