- 1886 Gold Dollar. Proof-64+ Cameo (PCGS). CAC. Lovely near-Gem surfaces exhibit light, even, orange gold patina that accents a boldly cameoed finish. The devices are fully struck as well as frosty in texture, and they appear to float atop glassy pools of reflectivity in the fields. Worthy of an even higher grade were it not for a wispy hairline in the left obverse field. The 1886 proof gold dollar has one of the more generous mintages of the type (1,016 pieces), and it has long been popular among proof gold type collectors. Cameo-finish coins, as here, are in the minority among survivors.
