Lot Description
1862 Pattern Liberty Eagle. Judd-297, Pollock-355. Rarity-6-. Proof-55 (PCGS). OGH. The obverse employs the same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1862 Liberty Eagles. The date is set low in the field with the digit 2 closer to the denticles than the truncation of Liberty's neck. The reverse is also similar to the regular issue design, but with the addition of the motto GOD OUR TRUST on a scroll in the upper field. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.<br />     Handsome copper-brown surfaces are evenly toned with few contact marks or other blemishes scattered about. Still sharply defined despite the presence of light highpoint rub, this piece displays only minor cabinet friction that accounts for the Proof-55 grade from PCGS. A thin, shallow graze in the lower-reverse field above the letters TE in TEN should serve as a useful pedigree marker.
