Lot Description
1786 Connecticut Copper. Mailed Bust Facing Right. W-2465, Miller 2.1-A. URS-10. ETLIB INDE. VF-25 (PCGS). Both sides of this mid-grade survivor are toned in a blend of medium-brown and dark-brown colors. Some bolder definition is evident toward the borders, but the centers are softly defined, largely due to the presence of several significant planchet flaws (as made) in those areas. Apart from a bit of old, light verdigris we see no post-production detractions of note. The transposed legend ETLIB INDE is diagnostic of this reverse die, while the periods after the words AUCTORI and CONNEC attribute the obverse die.
The PCGS holder describes the obverse as "Small Head," which might be a reference to the old "Round Head" attribution that Montroville Dickeson used to describe this die in 1859.
