- Warm golden-gray tinting with blushes of steel-lilac and pinkish-apricot iridescence splashed around the peripheries. The dies imparted both razor sharp definition to the design elements and a universally brilliant finish. The mintage of this penultimate Proof Liberty Seated dollar issue is 950 pieces, several hundred of which are believed to have been destroyed through melting when they failed to sell to contemporary numismatists. The estimate of 575 coins extant provided by Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing in their 2018 reference Liberty Seated Dollars: A Register of Die Varieties certainly accounts for most examples distributed in the manner intended.
