Description du lot
155.5 grains. Hard and glossy chestnut brown with exceptional eye appeal and charm. Called "double struck" by both Steve Tanenbaum and PCGS, on an unusually broad planchet, 32.0 millimeters across horizontally, no doubt the effect of the dramatic minting error. We actually find evidence a third strike, especially on the obverse where crushed lettering, seemingly a CON, can be seen between the two existing strikes of AUC. The obverse shows two complete profiles as well as two complete sets of the legend plainly and is completely unmarked to the unaided eye save for a tiny, natural flan flaw at 4 o'clock. The reverse is much the same overall though at some point years ago someone saw fit to make four short horizontal cuts in the field at IND, a shame, else that side would be essentially as flawless as the obverse. Still, a beautiful Connecticut copper both physically and aesthetically, and a coin that is absolutely worthy of premium bidding activity despite the common nature of the variety.
