Lot Description

This is a wonderful CHOICE AU O-101. A soft pearly luster blooms under a rich layer of pewter, pale blue, and russet toning. Sharply struck in the central devices but this is a later die state with weakness at the peripheries. The die dot between the 18 and 11 is bold, though the underlying 0 in the overdate is invisible in this die state. There are a few tiny ticks, the most visible of which is seen under the E in UNITED. The eye appeal is exceptional for the grade. PCGS 33, NGC 4, CAC 8. The most recent example to sell in auction brought $4,400 in January 2017. Prior to that, one sold in January 2011 at $3,450. Both the PCGS and CAC values are clearly not up to date and do not reflect the current market. Good luck. Cert. Number 39685822 PCGS # 6099
