- 1849 Gold Dollar. Open Wreath, With L. MS-66 (NGC). A frosty and lustrous yellow gold specimen with definitive olive highlights. Sharply struck with all of Longacre's tiniest details crisp and sharp, including the 13 tiny beads on Liberty's tiara and the reverse leaf details. We note a reverse die crack that runs from the dentils through the I in UNITED, then across the wreath through DOLL where it dips downward to the top of the 9, terminating at the berry just right of that numeral. An amazing Gem with exceptional eye appeal, a coin that rightfully belongs at the top of the NGC Census.
