Lot Description

A GEM Proof, one of only 900 Trade dollars struck in Philadelphia in 1878, the year that saw the end of the denomination being struck for circulation. This is a totally original and old time toned GEM Proof, with glittering mirrors under a rich layer of gold, lilac, and olive toning. The underlying mirrors are brilliant with a bold reflection. From the standpoint of both technical and aesthetic quality, this coin is a knockout. Only 900 Proofs were struck. PCGS 15, NGC 35, CAC 8. The current Collectors Universe value is $7,500 and the CAC CPG value is $8,340. The most recent CAC-approved CAC coin was graded by NGC and sold for $7,500 in May 2021. Worthy of a strong bid. Cert.
