Lot Description

1797 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-71, B-3. Rarity-2. Bowers Die State III. Stars 10x6. Fine-12 (PCGS). The obverse star arrangements is diagnostic for the BB-71 die marriage. Mottled charcoal-blue overtones enliven a base of steel-gray patina on both sides of this suitably bold Fine. The strike is nicely centered on the planchet, and the borders retain near-complete denticulation. A somewhat glossy texture is noted for accuracy, as are concentrations of moderate-size scrapes on the obverse at the back of Liberty's portrait and in the field in front of the forehead.
