Lot Description

Breen Die State III. Glossy dark olive surfaces exhibit a hint of pale blue iridescence, more noticeably on the reverse. Detail is generally sharp, although the strike is blunt at the end of Liberty's bust and at the corresponding features on the reverse, read: the letters TES OF in the legend and the top of the wreath. Scattered marks are consistent with the grade and most are singularly inconspicuous or otherwise of no concern, although a short, faint scratch below the letters AT in STATES on the reverse is noted as a useful provenance marker. Noyes ranks this Sheldon-229 cent CC#7 in his census with an EAC grade of VF30, while Del Bland calls it EAC VF35 and tied for CC#6.
