Lot Description
1870-CC Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-8. Rarity-4+. EF-40 (NGC). Warmly and evenly toned in steel-gray, direct lighting calls forth pretty powder blue and golden-pink undertones. Boldly defined overall with plenty of sharp detail remaining. The first of only four Carson City Mint Liberty Seated silver dollars, the 1870-CC, with a mintage of 12,462 pieces, is also the most available in today's market. The novelty of these large silver coins with the CC mintmark resulted in a fair number of examples being set aside as keepsakes at the time of issue, as well as being plucked from circulation in later years. In his outstanding reference The Confident Carson City Coin Collector, Volume I(2020), Carson City Mint expert Rusty Goe estimates that 650 to 875 coins are extant in all grades. Most are well worn and grade no finer than VF. With above average quality and pleasing eye appeal, this Extremely Fine example is sure to have no difficulty finding its way into another collection. PCGS# 6964. NGC ID: 24ZE. Click here for certification details from NGC. Additional image by NGC Photo Vision. Learn more at NGCcoin.com
