Lot Description

1795 Washington Liberty and Security Halfpenny. Baker-31C, W-11000. Plain Edge. AU-53 (PCGS). The deep chocolate-brown surfaces reveal no marks to the unaided eye though low magnification reveals an old and toned-over scrape that runs from the center of the shield upward across the eagle's sinister talons and the arrows through the sinister wing to the rim; it is visually harmless in the scheme of things. This British Conder token (D&H-1052c, Middlesex) has long been a featured part of American numismatics owing, of course, to its subject matter, the Father of Our Country. Some central striking weakness is seen on both sides, about par for the course on this issue. Far finer overall than our description implies.
