- Lot Description
- Exceptional quality and eye appeal for this early date Walking Liberty half dollar issue. Smooth and lustrous, the satiny surfaces have a somewhat matte-like texture that provides rustic charm. Generally light pewter gray in appearance, a halo of champagne-gold iridescence decorates the obverse periphery. Strike detail is razor sharp to full in most areas, and nowhere less than bold. A product of the Philadelphia Mint with a sizeable mintage of 6,372,000 pieces, the 1920 is usually dismissed as a "common date" among less knowledgeable collectors. Specialists in Walking Liberty half dollars, however, recognize that the 1920 is scarcer in Mint State than the 1916, 1916-D, 1917, 1929-D and 1933-S among early date issues of this type. Furthermore, premium Gems such as this are decidedly rare when viewed in the wider context of the series. A fleeting opportunity for the astute bidder.
