- 1844/1844-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-103, Die Pair WB-22, FS-301. Rarity-4. Doubled Date, Medium O. AU-50 (NGC).
One of the most popular of the blundered dates from this period as the offset is so dramatic and visible to the unaided eye. Mottled gold, tan and silver hues on the obverse, the reverse generally silver-white with gold at the rims. Average surface quality with minor handling marks when closely examined. Highly contested when these appear, as they are rare in high grades and many collectors seek an example of this storied mint blunder.
PCGS# 145817.
NGC Census: 2; 5 finer (AU-58 finest) within the variety designation.
