Lot Description

Here is a very attractive GEM example of this Top 100 VAM, noted for the low placement of the underlying 7 under the second 8 in 1880. Sharply struck devices are boldly frosted and stand out against the vibrant, rolling cartwheel luster. There are a few tiny hints of contact, which account for the grade, but none are singularly distracting or affect the bold eye appeal. PCGS 62, NGC 18, CAC 24. Prior to the one we sold in January 2018, the most recent example to sell in auction realized $3,055 in the 2016 ANA auction, but the most recent PCGS-graded 8/Low 7 sold for $4,800 and was NOT CAC. The current PCGS value is listed at $3,500. Bound for an impressive collection of Morgan dollar varieties, this GEM is worthy of a very high ranking PCGS Registry Set. Cert.
