- 1870 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-981, Pollock-1101. Rarity-6+. Proof-65 (PCGS). 1870 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-978, Pollock-1090. Rarity-7+. Proof-63 BN (PCGS). Standard Silver design with a right facing bust of Liberty as the focal device on the obverse. Liberty is wearing a diadem inscribed LIBERTY and her hair is tied in a bun. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the periphery, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed on a scroll below. On the reverse, the denomination 50 CENTS is centered within a wreath of oak and laurel with the inscription STANDARD SILVER above and the date 1870 below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br /> Exquisite Gem quality with pinkish-silver centers framed in crescents of olive and cobalt-blue peripheral toning. The finish is vibrant, the surfaces are overall smooth and a few old fingermarks on both sides further attest to the originality of this piece.
