Lot Description

1866 Shield Nickel. Rays. Fletcher-11. Repunched Date. AU-58 (NGC). Even silver-gray tinting to both sides, the surfaces with minimal wear yet the strike a bit uneven as often seen in early date Shield nickels. We note light scuffiness to the surfaces from circulation, but plenty of satiny mint bloom is discernible as the coin rotates under a light. A loupe reveals bold, wide repunching to the digits 66 in the date.
