Lot Description: Superb Gem Proof 1898 Nickel 1898 Liberty Head Nickel. Proof-67 Ultra Cameo (NGC). A virtually flawless example of both the type and issue that would serve with distinction in the finest numismatic collection. Both sides exhibit remarkably strong field to device contrast, the former areas deeply mirrored and the latter features with a billowy satin texture. Fully struck and expertly preserved, both sides are untoned apart from the lightest golden iridescence that is not readily evident at all viewing angles. Produced in relatively limited numbers (1,795 coins), the 1898 numbers among the scarcer Proofs in the Liberty Head nickel series. Tied for finest certified for the issue with a single Proof-67 Deep Cameo at PCGS, this NGC-certified Superb Gem is a breathtaking condition rarity worthy of the strongest bids.
