- Universally sharp definition and freedom from significant marks are strong suits for this superior About Uncirculated Classic Head cent. A flan flaw on the reverse is as made and, being that it is out of the way at the border outside the letters ER in AMERICA, does not adversely affect the eye appeal. Handsomely toned, as well, with blended olive-copper and rose-orange color to both sides. This would be an excellent coin to represent this short-lived design in a high grade type set. Despite the fact that both varieties have a Rarity-1 rating in an absolute sense, the 1814 Plain 4 is scarcer in all grades than its identically dated Crosslet 4 counterpart; availability differs most in the higher end circulated and Mint State grades, which highlights the significance of this the present opportunity for early copper enthusiasts. Breen Die State V.
