Lot Description
1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6-H, W-4445. Rarity-5. Mailed Bust Right, Boxer Head. Fine-12 (PCGS). 121.2 grains. Medium brown with lighter brown devices and an arc of ruddy patina and left and top obverse. Finely granular, with some light pitting at central obverse, natural clip at 4 o'clock relative to obverse. Actually very nice for this scarce variety, one that is unusually elusive in choice grade (the Unc Boyd-Ford coin notwithstanding). Obverse bulged under NEC; in later states and lower grades this swallows up a lot of the central obverse detail. This piece presents well, showing off the distinctive Machin's Mills types in fine style. PCGS# 397. Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection. Purchased from Anthony Terranova.
