Lot Description
This is a VERY attractive example and one of the FINEST KNOWN of this RARE Standard Silver pattern half dollar. Featuring William Barber's bust of Liberty facing right with a plain diadem and headband with the word LIBERTY; Standard Silver reverse. Struck in copper with a plain edge, J-954 is a Rarity-7+ pattern with 4-6 examples estimated produced and survive in all grades and designations. Highly reflective, ultra flashy copper mirrors beam boldly all over in the fields contrasting against the rich, frosted texture of the crisply defined reliefs. An extraordinary and vivid pale blue and violet patina creates a sensational overlay over nearly flawless surfaces, giving this GEM an off the charts eye appeal. WOW! PCGS 0, NGC 1, CAC 1. This remarkable GEM sold for $5,280 in December 2020. Unpriced in the Collectors Universe Price Guide, it is much finer than the Bob Simpson PCGS PR64+. An important coin for the advanced collector of patterns, one that will fit nicely in any amazing cabinet! Cert. Number 3178342001 PCGS # 861200
