Lot Description
Despite a mintage in excess of 22 million pieces, the 1963 Franklin half is VERY RARE in high grade; especially in the FBL designation. The presently offered GEM is one of the FINEST GRADED at PCGS, tied for second highest at that service, with just 2 finer. Highly lustrous surfaces show off a bold mint brilliance that accents a rich overlay of deep slate, violet, and rose over a bright silver. The reverse is lighter with a soft rose-gold. Well struck with full definition to the bell lines. A tiny reeding mark can be seen on the Liberty Bell, but it is unobtrusive. The eye appeal is very pleasing. PCGS 9, NGC 12. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $16,000 and prior to this one selling in January 2023, an NGC MS66 FBL sold in our August 2020 Regency Auction for $15,275. Just two are graded higher, including the MS66+ FBL we sold for a world record $85,188. This Mint Set toned MS66 FBL deserves its rightful place in a high ranking Registry Set. Cert. Number 44259383 PCGS # 86684
